Henry Sowizral on Refacing C++ with WPF in Expression Design
While on campus for the MVP Summit in February, I had a chance to visit Henry Sowizral over in building 41. Henry Sowizral is a Principal Architect in Microsoft Expression, and he and his team did something really cool: converted an existing C/C++/MFC application to have a WPF front-end, while still leveraging all that existing code. While initially seen as a horizontal solution Larry and Mike talk about how this could target vertical markets such as healthcare. Sjöfartsverket – Använder Silverlight för att hålla koll på de svenska vattennivåerna
Sjöfartsverket har ett antal mätstationer i Sverige som mäter vind, vattenstånd och strömmar. Dessa vill man att allmänheten ska kunna se via webben och få dess mätdata snyggt presenterat i realtid. Sjöfartsverket ville även utvärdera om Silverlight är något att satsa på i den egna IT avdelningen. Mätvärdena lagras centralt och exponeras i en WebService för åtkomst till ett antal applikationer (bland annat SMHI).[more ]

TechFest 2010: Microsoft ICE - Image Composite Editor

Today I'd like to introduce you to another piece of new technology from Microsoft Research Labs – Image Composite Editor (ICE) with Multi-Image Fusion.  In the current version of ICE, it provides advanced features for panoramic stitching such as choosing the stitch’s orientation, custom projection, and selecting a 360 stitch’s mid-point, and this tool also integrates nicely as a plug-in into Windows Live Photo Gallery. Here we’ll show you some of the upcoming new features in ICE such as:

  • Structured Panoramas
  • Stitching Panoramas from Video
  • Sharp Panoramas from Blurry Videos
  • Creating Photographs from Videos
